Our 10th and final Dream Fund Edible Playground at Manorfield Primary School in Tower Hamlets is now complete. At the start of this year’s growing season all 700 students from Manorfield Primary can begin sowing and growing healthy food at school. The Edible Playground will also provide a platform for fun and engaging lessons that support the school curriculum.
In addition, Chefs Adopt a School are taking Year 5 on a taste and sensory culinary journey that will give students inspiration on how to use the produce they will soon be harvesting. The school are committed to earning their first Food for Life and Healthy Schools Award, and thanks to players of the People’s Postcode Lottery and Ernest Cook Trust who have supported the school with match funding, they are on track to do so.
Since February 2015, players of the People’s Postcode Lottery have supported and helped 5,000 children in 11 UK schools grow and eat freshly grown produce through the Edible Playgrounds programme. From London to Reading to Liverpool and Manchester, we have created vibrant green growing spaces in the following schools:
Manorfield Primary School (Tower Hamlets, London), Holy Name RC Primary School (Fazakerley, Liverpool), Monksdown Primary School (Norris Green, Liverpool), Stamford Hill Primary School (Haringey, London), St Teresa’s of Lisieux Catholic Primary School (Norris Green, Liverpool), Meridian High School with Fairchildes Primary School (Croydon, London), Charlotte Sharman Primary School (Southwark, London), Baguley Hall Primary School (Wythenshawe, Manchester), Berrymede Junior School (Ealing, London) and Palmer Academy (Reading).
