Growing Good Food in Schools

On Tuesday 15th March the Edible Playgrounds team from Trees for Cities attended Food Growing Schools London’s (FGSL) Schools Conference held at Argyle Primary in Camden.

Trees for Cities patron, Chris Collins kicked off the day with an inspirational welcome and keynote speech.  Workshops led by a number of the FGSL partners followed with an emphasis on planting, sowing, growing and of course eating good food in schools.

Trees for Cities ran 4 workshops for 28 delegates on how to design, build and implement our Edible Playgrounds which transform outdoor spaces in school grounds (no matter what the size) into green growing spaces, giving children the opportunity to grow, harvest and eat healthy food.

The day also included a “Gardener’s Question Time” where the audience had the opportunity to get valuable advice from the highly skilled panel lead by Chris Collins. Top tips included how to engage students, adapting small spaces and growing great fruit and veg throughout the seasons.
